Naruto TCG Combat and the Attack Chain
See exactly how declaring an attack, the chain window and the damage step resolve in Naruto TCG.
Declaring an attack taps the attacking Character (or the Leader) and opens a chain window before any damage happens - the same priority window a Summon or an Activate: Main ability also opens (see Quick Cards and Priority Windows), just with a damage step at the end. The defender may respond with face-down Support cards one at a time, or a Quick card straight from hand; if everything queued resolves (or nothing was ever queued) and the window closes with the attack still standing, damage resolves right away.
In the damage step, Character-vs-Character combat compares the attacker's current Power to the defender's remaining HP - if Power meets or beats it, the defender's Character is K.O.'d; otherwise the damage persists on that card until it's healed or finished off later. A direct attack on the Leader instead applies the attacker's Damage stat straight to the Leader's Life. Only tapped Characters can be attacked directly (the opposing Leader can always be attacked regardless of its own tapped state), and Characters never block. A match ends the moment a Leader's Life reaches 0.
